I've trained under some of the best minds in running medicine, namely Jay Dicharry, PT, and Bob Wilder, MD, at the Runner's Clinic at UVA. Striving to help prevent injuries rather than just treat them has led to me spending much of my time since residency learning about various training philosophies for runners, and eventually becoming a coach myself. I love keeping up with current research & best coaching practices, & applying those lessons to the runners I work with through coaching, gait analysis, or my PR intro & advanced strength classes for runners.
"Poor hitters make the best hitting coaches. They don't try to make you like them, because they sucked." is a great quote from Moneyball, although I discovered it in Steve Magness' The Science of Running book. While I know of quite a few great runners who are also great coaches, I will never be one of the former, but hope to be one of the latter. A big part of what led me into PM&R & Running Medicine was having plenty of my own running injuries, & rarely finding great advice from our medical system. Now I take much more satisfaction from helping keep my athletes injury free while also helping them achieve their goals. Although I'm newer to coaching, I can draw from my experiences of helping thousands of runners in clinic & hundreds in gait analysis & our strength classes in order to help you reach your goals.
