The running bug bit me about 25 years ago in South Africa where I started running many races ranging from 5km's up to 90km's over the years. My wife and I moved to Madrid (Spain) a little over 4 years ago, where I've been able to complete another 9 marathons in my late 50's, with a PB of 3h26 in 2022. As a running coach, I believe I have a lot to share especially in terms of practical advice which I've gained over the years out on the road.
I've learnt a huge amount from UESCA, especially with regards to how the human body functions scientifically. I believe that one of the biggest mistakes many runners make is doing "too much too soon". I personally was one of those people when I started running seriously and I paid dearly for it, so I'm extremely conservative in coaching a new runner, not to pack on the high mileage before his/her musculoskeletal system has caught up with his/her cardiovascular system. I also believe that generally most people run for recreation, to get fit or lose weight, not necessarily to make money out of it. Therefore I believe in order not to get bored, runners have to have fun! If we as runners don't enjoy what we're doing, we'll end up hanging the running shoes up, and that's pointless.
