I started running at school and loved competing in cross country and running round the local hills. Over the years, I have continued to run whilst exploring other sports such as triathlon/duathlon (Age Group Silver Medalist 2016), cycling and netball (Scottish U21 Squad). After my diagnosis with an autoimmune arthritis in my hips and spine, I found running in the hills and on the trails reignited my love of running. I now compete in longer ultras and try to enter races which excite me and have nice views!
For me, trail and ultrarunning is about discovering what you are capable of whilst having fun. My coaching philosophy has four main principles: enjoyment; adventure; new/big challenges to push yourself; resilience; and consistency and sustainable training to help you get to the start line happy and healthy.
As a result of my arthritis, I have learned to adapt my training and integrate cross training such as cycling (mainly mountain biking but also indoor training, road cycling and gravel riding) to support my training and keep me as healthy as possible so I am happy to incorporate cross training in training programmes.
Coaching is part-time project for me alongside my main job, so I will intentionally keep athlete numbers small to ensure each athlete gets the support and communication they need.
