I am a life-time athlete and six time 100 mi finisher. I have experience in soccer, skiing, rock climbing, backpacking and trail running. My orthopedic PT background allows to me to prevent and treat overuse injuries common to the runner. With my experience participating in 50k - 100 mi races I have a personal understanding of what it takes to successfully train for the ultramarathon distance and how to recover and improve performance.
I believe in a holistic approach to trail running that is formatted on a year long running season that includes a planned race schedule, vacations, cross training/strength training, socialization, friendship, and work life balance strategy. Training can be both regimented and/or go-with-the-flow depending on individual personality. Realistic goals need to be made to avoid injury and mitigate unnecessary work and relationship stress. Having fun and growing confidence in a way that improves physical and mental well-being are the ultimate reward. Pressure on oneself can always be defused by understanding that ultramarathon at its core is a crazy activity that allows us to learn about ourselves and the natural world.
