About Karsten

I’m a German trail and ultrarunning coach based in the Canary Islands with a background in Sportökonomie (B.Sc., M.Sc.). I combine sport science with real-world endurance experience, shaped by years in outdoor sports, guiding, and teaching. Living and training on volcanic terrain has reinforced my belief in patience, consistency, and structured thinking. I work with committed runners who want to train intelligently, improve with purpose, and take ownership of their development.

Coaching Philosophy

My coaching is built on a simple principle: long-term development beats short-term performance. I prioritize consistency, intelligent progression, and durability over quick results. Training should support life—not compete with it.
I use evidence-informed methods, but always filter research through real-world experience. Data matters, yet context matters more. Every athlete brings unique constraints, stressors, and strengths, and programs must reflect that.
I believe in honest feedback, shared responsibility, and critical thinking. My role isn’t just to write workouts—it’s to guide decision-making, manage risk, and develop self-aware, resilient athletes. The ultimate goal is sustainable performance: staying healthy, improving steadily, and showing up prepared when it truly counts.
