I've always been a sport enthusiast. In high school I started running just for the feeling — no watch, no app, only the need for endorphins that team sports couldn't give me. A couple of DIY half marathons later, I discovered trail running and everything changed; since then I've spent most of my free time on the trails of northern Italy. Training seriously for races, and later being coached myself, convinced me this was worth doing for others too. I'm a good listener: every athlete needs a different approach, so my job is to adapt to them, not just prescribe workouts.
I prescribe workouts based on RPE, not sportwatch data. I believe this is the best way to build independence from devices: I love tech and numbers, and I do use them to analyze workouts and races, but my athletes need to be able to run without them to truly benefit from what those stats tell us. I strongly encourage cross-training — alpine skiing and cycling in particular — and I consider strength training essential to prevent injuries and improve performance in ultrarunning.
