10+ years
I've been a mountain athlete and adventurer for nearly 35 years (!), starting with rock climbing at the age of 10. Rock climbing led to ice climbing and mountaineering, which led to running and ultra running, backpacking and fast packing, and more recently to canyoneering, pack rafting and more! My passion and desire for adventure and exploration, and coaching others to pursue the same, only continues to grow. I'm a diehard mountain enthusiast but also have a deep love of desert environments, especially the Grand Canyon which is one of my favorite places on earth (50+ trips and counting)!
My primary focus is to help people build their “mental muscle”–which means successfully managing the ego, embracing a growth mindset, examining and truly understanding their "why", and instilling a big picture mentality so they prioritize physical & mental health over all else. Long term sustainability is the ultimate goal, in order for folks to be able to do what they love to do!
I believe that no goal is worth risking the ability to keep doing the activities we love. If we overtrain and can't keep doing what brings us joy then the real difficulties begin. A little moderation, when necessary, goes a very long way!
Lastly, I believe that what matters most is deliberate action not pace or distance. 1,000 miles is not more praise-worthy than 1 mile; 1 mile is not more praise-worthy than 1 step. What truly matters is someone making a choice to do something positive for themselves!
