About Karisa

For years I ran to get fitter. Then I moved somewhere with runners and run clubs out at all hours, and I got curious. My mileage began to increasing each week and I signed up for my first marathon. The build was rough: I used a plan I found online, I got sick and injured, but I finished anyway. Race day hooked me. For my 50 miler I hired a coach. The difference in the training was obvious. That block was harder physically, but far more effective and enjoyable.

Once I get enough miles in, running becomes my time with God, and gratitude for His creation and my place in it.

Coaching Philosophy

Training starts with your why. A plan is easy to write and hard to finish. What carries you through week eleven is knowing exactly what you're doing it for, so that's the first thing we figure out.

From there it has to fit your real life. You have a job and people who need you. If your plan makes you dread Tuesday, it's the wrong plan and we change it.

I'll push you toward the basics before the gadgets. Cold plunges and saunas are great, but rest days, sleep, real food, and listening to your body are what impact recovery the most.

I also build for the person you are. Need to see race day from twelve weeks out? We'll map it early. Rather just see this week's runs? That works too.

Last thing: if you've hired a coach, you're an athlete. Run/walk intervals or seventy-mile weeks, the label is the same. Start treating yourself like one!
