About Ilaria

I spent 15 years as a university researcher in linguistics and neuroscience before trading academia for the trails. That background shapes how I coach: I noticed striking parallels between how people learn a language and how they learn to run well, and I apply the same evidence-based method to both. I coach mainly online, based in Milan, Italy, with a week in the US almost every month. For the past two years I've raced every month, mostly ultras across California, Arizona and Utah, and I'll be the first Italian woman to toe the line at Cocodona 250.

Coaching Philosophy

My coaching is science-based, full stop: every recommendation has to be grounded in real evidence, not trends or my own personal results. That standard comes from 15 years as a university researcher in linguistics and neuroscience, studying how people acquire complex skills. I see clear parallels between learning a language and learning to run well: both need the right progression, patient repetition, and feedback that fits the individual, not a generic template. I apply that same rigor to running, always adapted to the athlete in front of me rather than to my own experience as a runner. I coach the person, not just the training log, and I'm upfront rather than motivational: no toxic positivity, honest feedback, and a plan built for your body, your life and your goals, whether that's your first 10K or your first 100-miler.
