About John

I am 63, a Vegan and ex military. I coach beginners and experienced runners training for 5k races up to 100+ mile ultras. I coach based on my own experiences and prefer to do something before coaching it. Although I've been running since I was at school ( a long time ago) I only started running ultras at the age of 60 and since then I've done events from 50km up to 100 miles. I plan to do a 200 miler before long. I've been coaching since 2018 as a qualified Scottish Athletics coach and I lead a local running group called 'RunSum Running Kirkcaldy'.

Coaching Philosophy

I coach around your life and priorities and create bespoke training plans with realistic goals that are regularly reviewed with critical feedback. I don't tell you what you want to hear and I'm known for telling it as it is but will support and encourage you all the way. I work with runners of all levels and ages. I'm an experienced PT and I have my own gym and encourage strength training as part of all training plans. I have extensive knowledge of nutrition for daily lifestyle, training and race day. I am a vegan (as are a lot of the top ultra runners, just saying 🙂 ) but none of the runners I coach are and I don't expect them to be. My motto is simple, 'Life's too short to do easy stuff'.
