10+ years
My sporting career started as a swimmer, I was the kid in the pool at 5 in the morning. Since then I have played waterpolo, participated in numerous martial arts over the year from the traditional Wing Chung, WuChia and Mantis to May Thai (my favourite) I have ran in the MDs (when we really had no idea what we were doing) Himalayan stage race, Jungle ultras and many Marathons. With 22 years in the reserve forces 18 of which I spent as a PTI I have trained hundreds of individuals from all backgrounds. I live in Sussex with my wife and 3 Border Terriers and work in London.
Know Yourself. I am not a hand holding Coach I take people on a journey by recognising and identifying their unique abilities (which often people don't themselves) and taking them on a journey as an individual, trained around their life style.
My Mantra is Coach - Learn - Adapt
Coach -teaching, demonstrating and engaging. Learn-You can't move forward unless the athlete moves with you, if you are serious about running an ultra you need to learn about yourself (mentally and physically). Adapt - Sport is constant adaption to stimulus. When the adaption and stimulus mimic the environment you're training for you will be better placed to succeed.
Understanding the Athlete is key. Be it a first timer or experienced runner, does their expectations of the event they have chosen match their lifestyle & time availability for training. Theres only one way to find out! J
