About Mattia

When I turned professional in XC-Skiing I became more and more interested in training and coaching because I wanted to follow a line of training that was science based. During the summer preparation of the last two years I've introduced triathlon in my preparation competing in 70.3 and short distance and I immediately fell in love with the triathlon atmosphere and with the process of preparation to compete in such special endurance events. My coach goal is to give my athletes what I lacked from my coaches: objective answers of why we were doing a given workout instead of another one.

Coaching Philosophy

For me, a coach should be an instrument to the athlete in order to achieve a given goal. The training program is important but the key is to listen to the athlete feedbacks because, at the end of the day, he/she's the one who has more experience about his/her body and the signals that its's sending to him/her. My goal is, with the help of science and experience, to interprete those signals in the best possible way, to achieve the athlete full potential.
I am a big fan of physiological testing and for me the lactate meter is the "truth machine", especially for beginners who have less experience in controlling intensity and training by feeling.
As a coach It's important to compete, at least once, in the same race format that my athletes are training for. It helps me to understand the kind of effort required and it allows me to be closer to the athletes during the preparation process.
