I am a retired science high school teacher who loves to garden, raise sheep, and care for dogs. I started running by competing in local 5K's & 10K's, because I loved running hard and supporting my community. Soon I was traveling to run half marathons and finally at the age of 63 I ran my first marathon. My second marathon I qualified for Boston and ran there in 2018. What a thrill. I am now on trails full time and just completed my 10th 50K at Zion last April. I live to race and enjoy meeting new people out on the course. I am VP of our local running club.
Most runners have their glory moments in their 20's, 30's, and even as Masters in their 40's. I didn't even start my running adventures until my late 50's and now I am 70. I initially helped coach individuals through a training program at a local store, but now I have turned my attention to older men & women starting their running journey. 'Keep it simple, be consistent, make it fun.' That is my mantra and that is what I share with whoever I am coaching or pacing during a race. I have supportive friends to keep me on top of my running game and that is what I will do for anyone I coach. I want to be their motivator and make sure they reach their potential. Remember, the glass is half full – it is critical to hold your head up, smile, and be proud of whatever distance you accomplish. Yes, you can. Life is about how you live, not how old you are, so enjoy everyday and what it brings.
