Type of Coach: Triathlon, Cycling, Running

Location/Time Zone: Castle Rock, Co (Mountain Standard Time)

Specific Areas of Expertise: Program Design, Business Development, Team development

Mentor Bio: I started my professional journey as a professor of exercise science. Once my career as a professional triathlete started to take off, I walked away from the classroom and began my coaching business. It started as just myself, then quickly escalated to having assistant coaches working under the MHRacing umbrella. My understanding of the human body and how it responds to exercise as well as my experience racing at the highest level is what helped me gain credibility as a coach. Building a coaching business from just me to having 10 assistant coaches has taught me a number of valuable lessons about how to build a business along the way. I spent eight years studying the human body and was a professor for seven years as well. When I left the classroom, I missed the teaching component and sharing the knowledge and experience I gained with others. I filled that void by mentoring the coaches who joined MHRacing and look forward to continuing that on by mentoring other new UESCA Coaches!

Type of Coach: Triathlon, Endurance Sports, specializes in 40+ females

Location/Time Zone: Richmond, TX, US Central Time Zone

Specific Areas of Expertise: 40+ females, developing athlete relationships, program design, business development, time management, working with kids

Mentor Bio: I have been coaching since 2019 and for the most part have grown my clientele organically. As a mentor I can share what I have gone through to grow my business, how I manage my time, what I have done to market myself and things I wish I had time to do as a coach to market myself. I think the most important thing to learn as a coach is each athlete is an individual and your coaching cannot be just one style or you need to make that very transparent in the beginning. I relate my coaching to my kids, each one reacts differently to parenting, so you need to adjust.  Know what you are willing to give as a coach.

Contact Heather for Mentoring Services: CoachHeatherHart@gmail.com

Heather’s Coaching Websites: https://www.hartendurancecoaching.com and https://www.relentlessforwardcommotion.com

Type of Coach: BS Exercise & Sport Science, Certified Exercise Physiologist, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Run (RRCA), Ultrarunning (UESCA) & Cycling Coach (UESCA & USAC)

I currently work virtually coaching runners, ultrarunners, gravel cyclists, and adventure racers, and also work in-person for the wellness department at a medical center, training healthcare workers at our on-campus gym.

Location/Time Zone: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina / EST

Specific Areas of Expertise: Exercise science, program design, strength training (including how to successfully design and implement a strength training program for endurance athletes)

Mentor Bio: I have been working in the fitness industry for nearly my entire adult life.  In 2006 I discovered a love for running, and immediately pursued and earned a degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Coastal Carolina University in order to share my passion with others.

For the last two decades I have worn a number of hats in the fitness industry, such as working as an assistant in an exercise science lab,  teaching group fitness classes, writing fitness articles for numerous publications, managing personal training departments in traditional gyms, coaching endurance athletes across multiple disciplines, and more.

In 2017, my husband Geoff and I founded Hart Strength and Endurance Coaching, and both almost immediately began coaching endurance athletes full time.  Over the years we have built our business to include a number of assistant coaches who work with us. With our well rounded team of coaches we help everyday people all over the world achieve incredible strength and endurance goals – whether it’s running their first 5K or their fifth 200 miler, training for a sprint triathlon or a multi day expedition adventure race, getting in shape to pass a Military physical fitness exam, or getting back to training after an injury, and everything in between.

At the end of the day, I am a massive science nerd.  While I truly enjoy helping people reach their fitness and sport goals, my passion lies in helping people understand the “hows and whys” behind exercise science, so they can take a more educated and confident approach to their own training.  Once you truly understand the basics of exercise physiology and program design, it’s much easier to weed through the endless misinformation we see in both the fitness and coaching industries.   This passion extends beyond my personal clients to new coaches in the industry as well. There is absolutely an art to coaching, and it can be intimidating to navigate programming when you are first getting started. Over the years I’ve been honored to have the opportunity to mentor dozens of new coaches, helping them to better understand and bridge the gap between the knowledge they gained in their certification materials and the application of that knowledge to real life scenarios, in order to help their own clients achieve their goals.
