All too often, the process by which certification companies require their coaches/trainers to recertify is nothing more than a veiled money grab. We clearly do not agree with this approach. While we’re staunch believers in the value and necessity of continuing education, we just think it should be done with more integrity.
Therefore, UESCA provides a no-cost option to recertify, in addition to two other options should you prefer not to write a paper.
1. (No-Cost Option) Write a short (1000-3000 words), science-based paper on an endurance sports topic of your choosing. Please click here to view the paper requirements and instructions.
2. Take a 50-question recertification exam ($99 fee)
3. Successful completion of an additional UESCA certification course, or 1-2 UESCA Specialization courses. The CEU requirement will be considered fulfilled once the additional UESCA course(s) is completed (and they can be taken anytime during the two-year period).
Note: For coaches holding more than one UESCA certification, only one recertification process is required every two years and will be applied to all certifications held by the coach.
UESCA is also a continuing education provider to many of the top fitness certifications. Please click here to view the organizations and their respective continuing education units/credits.
UESCA Recertification Paper Requirements and Instructions
The paper should be between 1000-3000 words. The content of the paper must be based around professional research. Therefore information direct from sources such as magazines and blogs are not acceptable. However if a magazine or blog cites a professional study from a journal and/or university, it can be cited and used. Pubmed.com and Google Scholar are good resources for finding professional journal articles. While PubMed might only offer an abstract of a paper, the information can still be cited and utilized in the user’s submission.
Once a paper has been submitted to UESCA for review, the author of the paper agrees to give UESCA non-exclusive and royalty-free permission to use the material on the UESCA website as well as for future learning and promotional material.
Submission to UESCA
Papers should be sent via email to info@uesca.com. Please submit the paper as an attachment either as a PDF or Word Doc. The email subject should include the individual’s name, email address and subject of the paper. (ex: John Doe, JD@yahoo.com – Low back pain in swimmers)
Review by UESCA
Once received by UESCA, we will review the paper and if we have any questions, we will email the individual using the email on file for them.
