I'm 61 years old and living proof that it’s never too late to change. Once overweight, unfit, and managing osteoarthritis, I’ve walked the length of New Zealand—over 2,000 km—and completed 100 km a day for 7 days straight to support Arthritis NZ. From struggling to run, I’ve hit PBs of 19:19 for 5 km, 41:36 for 10 km, and 1:46:53 for the half marathon. I’m a proud volunteer coach for Speed Freaks and a passionate parkrun supporter. Running has changed my life, and I’m dedicated to helping others discover their strength, potential, and joy through movement—no matter their age or condition.
My coaching philosophy is rooted in individualisation—no two athletes are the same, so their paths to success shouldn’t be either. Varied training develops all energy systems with precision, applying the right exercise dose to trigger optimal physiological adaptations. Efficient running form and gait maximises free energy through elastic recoil and reduces injury risk. I believe recovery is where the magic happens; it’s when the body absorbs training making you stronger, so timing it right is critical. Strength training is like motor on an e-bike—essential for building power to make running feel easier and more enjoyable. Nutrition and recovery are the fully charged battery. I also emphasise comprehensive race-day prep, including training to race conditions, mental readiness, pacing, nutrition, logistics, and calming nerves, ensuring you arrive at the start line confident and prepared.
