I started running cross country in the UK as a teenager which required a good dose of grit and determination as this is an all weather sport. I ran the London Marathon as an 18 year old back in the early '80s and was inspired by the likes of Ron Hill and Joss Naylor. After that, I tended to participate in endurance events such as the Karrimor Mountain Marathon, skiing the length of Norway and more. It was not until I moved to Canada that I rekindled my love of running. After competing in a few road marathons again I started running ultraraces in my 40s and 50s both in the UK and Canada.
As soon as you put on your running shoes and take the first step you are now considered a runner in my mind. Everyone can set their own goals but working with a coach allows a runner to adapt through a program to every life challenge that comes their way. Self belief is crucial and particularly essential for the intermediate runner who wants to up their game and make running a lifestyle choice. My aim as your coach is for you to be able to run your best but at the heart of your running I want you to find the joy in the art of running. Maybe it’s the teacher still in me that celebrates your success as my own. Running can take you to places both metaphorically and physically that will take your breath away and it will allow you to experience the great outdoors while travelling light whether as a solo runner or in the company of a community of runners.
