About Irem Can

I have been running for nearly 10 years and actively pursue careers as both an athlete and a coach. I compete in races both nationally and internationally, with highlights including running the Boston Marathon in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Most recently, I completed the 2024 Chicago Marathon in 2 hours and 31 minutes, as well as the Valencia Marathon in Europe with the same time of 2 hours and 31 minutes. Alongside my coaching career, I find great joy in inspiring the athletes I work with and showing them the right way to approach the sport.

Coaching Philosophy

My coaching philosophy prioritizes three key aspects: first, being healthy; second, enjoying what you do; and finally, focusing on performance, which should be the last consideration. If the first two are in place—if we are healthy and genuinely enjoy what we’re doing—performance will naturally follow. The main goal is to enjoy the process.

I do not work with a results-oriented approach, nor do I impose time pressures on my athletes. I never burden them with expectations around time or results because, at the end of the day, this is not something we do for financial gain; our primary goal is to find joy in running. Let’s not forget that. If running becomes more about time and pressure than enjoyment, athletes might eventually lose their passion for the sport.

Our priority is to love what we do. When we genuinely enjoy something, the chances of failure are almost non-existent.
